Making Walking a Priority
June 3, 2007
Ever wonder if you have your priorities straight?
How important is your fitness routine in your list of priorities?
Do you rank it high? How easy is it to get fitness bumped in favor of sleep or a TV program?
When we first begin a fitness routine, we often find it exhilarating, but then it seems to wear thin and we go back to making excuses.
- I love walking and find that as long as I remember that this is MY time, I can stick with it.
- I love listening to my audio stuff, and
- I love great music from the sixties (I know, that’ really old),
- I love feeling the beat and letting the music move me,
- I love my time, my walking time.
Remember that old commercial for Life Cereal? We can’t eat that cereal, why not? It’s good for us. We don’t want to eat it if it’s good for us, right? Wonder what it tastes like? Hey, let’s get MIKEY to eat it, he’ll eat anything. (Mikey tastes cereal). He likes it, hey Mikey.
There’s a little rebel inside of me sometimes reminding me that walking is really good for me, especially when combined with good breathing techniques.
And then I start thinking about Mikey and how we don’t really want to do something if it’s good for us, right?
I just have to keep that little rebel in me quiet.
I just have to keep remembering that this isn’t for the doctor or my family.
This fitness walking routine is just for me.
And that’s when I remember how much I love it.
Come on, are you busy? Let’s go for a walk together…just let me change my shoes.

May I be the first to comment on your Blog! My trainer, had me starting to walk five miles a day. I am also biking, hiking, and some other things. I am in my ninth week, and have almost lost 20 pounds. Most of that due to walking. -Douglas

Doug, I’m thrilled for you. Twenty pounds is awesome. And thanks so much for writing. Is there anything special that you do to keep motivated? Music?
Do you listen to books? Treadmill, walk outdoors? Let us know so we can stay inspired. Patty
